GEORGE TOWN: Only World Group has been lauded by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi here today for “breathing new life into Komtar.” Speaking at the launch of The TOP@Komtar, Zahid said the company’s efforts in revitalising the iconic George Town landmark will create new buzz for Penang, and ultimately boost its tourism sector. “To climb the rungs of the global economy today requires the participation and contribution of all Malaysians,” he said.
The TOP houses Penang’s largest indoor theme attractions. Among them are Penang’s first “Window of the TOP”, which includes a Rainbow Skywalk on Komtar’s rooftop and an Observation Deck on level 65, both of which offer panoramic views of George Town and beyond. Zahid said Komtar has always been a beloved icon among both Penangites and Malaysians for decades. “This tallest structure in Penang actually has significant beginnings. “It serves as a reminder of the late Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu’s vision for Penang. When Dr Lim was appointed as Chief Minister, he realised there was a need for urban development and heritage conservation. “Thus, Komtar was conceived,” he added.Today, the legacy that began in the 1970s continues, Zahid added. His speech was read out by Tourism and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz.
Present were Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, Only World Group chairman Datuk Dr Tengku Rethwan Tengku Mansor, group founder and chief executive officer of the company Datuk Seri Richard Koh, as well as group chief operating officer Datuk Jean Koh.
