Hundreds of taxi drivers smiled in anticipation as they made their way up from the Komtar Banquet Hall, where they were treated to a buffet-style luncheon, before they headed to the much-talked about attraction at Level 68.
Ooi Yeen Peng, 46, who has been driving a taxi for over two decades, said the ‘open air’ experience was thrilling. “The view is very beautiful. Komtar used to have an observatory deck many years ago. “Even then, we view it through the glass. This unobstructed view gives a better feeling at the top. I will definitely tell others about it,” he said recently.
Only World Group Holdings Bhd chief executive officer Datuk Seri Richard Koh, who thanked the taxi drivers present, said he hoped that the visitors had a good impression of the attractions. State strategic advisor Datuk Saifuddin Nasution said taxi drivers played an important role in promoting the state’s attractions. Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, who launched the event, said the state would look into ways to increase the number of attractions in Penang as an avenue to boost the income of local taxi drivers.
